Ready Beds

An absolute must for any parent, Ready Beds are inflatable and portable beds, similar to air beds used in camping, but with a combined integrated sleeping bag for maximum warmth and comfort. They are often used for children up to the age of 5 when they are sleeping at friends, camping out or staying with a family member. One major benefit with ready beds is the vast improvement over traditional airbeds in that the children no longer slide off because of the attached sleeping bag which does of course improve your child’s sleep.

Ready beds come encased in their own foldaway bag and inflating pump which will take a few minutes to set up and even less time to deflate. The kids love the pump action and generally have great fun when pumping up their own bed (and let’s not forget the bouncy aspect of ready beds too!). The carry bag is very light and easily transported ensuring that the very nature of ready beds ensures this a must buy item for any parent or carer.

Castle Beds do not supply Ready Beds as they are easily and cheaply available from your local Argos Store, for latest pricing you can visit their website using the links below:

Memory Foam Mattresses

Memory Foam Mattresses

Memory foam was invented by NASA to lessen the g-force pressure on astronauts during lift-off. The medical community picked up this find. They started using memory foam mattress pads on immobile bed bound patients that were developing pressure sores.

Because memory foam is so dense, it is firmer in cool temperatures and softens with heat. As body heat warms the foam, it softens and conforms itself to the persons shape. This only takes minutes to accomplish.

At first, memory foam was too expensive to put on the open market for private consumers. However, technology has allowed cheaper ways to produce the materials. Now, there are memory foam mattress pads, pillows, and mattresses- all available to the public.

Most people opt for memory foam mattress pads, since memory foam mattresses are just too soft. The pad can be placed on top of a firm bed and still provide you with the pressure relief. Sizes usually are 2 or 3 inches thick, but 1’s and 4’s are offered by a few companies. The heavier you are, the thicker you will want the pad to be. Another choice you will see amongst the various brands is firmness. Firmness is measured by the foam’s Indentation Force Deflection (IFD) rating. IFD measures how many pounds of force is required to make a dent of 1″ into a foam sample 15″ x 15″ x 4″ by an 8 inch diameter. A 10 would be super soft. An IFD of 120 would be semi-rigid. You should also check the warranty. Some manufactures offer a 20 year warranty, while others only offer a 10 year warranty.

There have been a few problems reported by users (mainly with memory foam made in China.) One of the chief complaints is allergens. PBD is a chemical fire retardant, that causes some people to have respiratory irritation. However, there are special protectors that you can buy. Covers like- the “Protect-A-Bed Premium Mattress Protector” do not alter the feel or function, but will protect you from the processing chemicals. It is best to make sure the company does not use any toxic chemicals in processing.

Everyone wants a good night’s sleep with comfort. But, those particularly prone to joint pain, muscle stiffness, and pressure spots can find memory foam mattress pads to afford them a good night’s sleep. On a regular mattress the body must conform around the mattress. This can be hard for people with diseases like, fibromyalgia or arthritis. A memory foam bed contours to support whatever position you are laying in. There are also claims (by the manufacturers) that memory foam products reduce sleep apnoea. Though, this claim has not been proven or condoned by the medical community.

Bedsteads- made of wood, leather, metal or a combination of any of these, bedsteads are designed to hold a mattress and feature as part of your room decor, there are so many different styles and designs it’s a good idea to have in mind what you want because you can get tired just looking! Different versions come with varied quality of build, technically the better ones are the frames that have strong bases and offer sprung slats as opposed to just straight wood slats or metal mesh bases. And always ask what mattress can go with them as some of the better ones don’t lend themselves to slatted bases very well.

Divans- These are still the world best selling beds as there sprung or platform bases offer maximum support for the mattress, i.e. the flatter the base the better the mattress can work. Plus with drawer options available they can double up as cupboard space and the biggest bonus is they don’t go out of fashion in two years. Many manufacturers now produce more ‘pretty’ bases that can be left without valance sheets and look quite attractive. Also divans come in more size options, that of junior, junior single, single, large single, three quarter, double, king and super king.
